Proud Decorators: Blank Canvas Design

ShareBrewers customer Blank Canvas Design have been showcasing some of their stunning work as part of the Brewers Decorator Centres Proud Decorators drive.
Blank Canvas Design was formed by Imogen Sibley who, with her Furniture and Product Design degree, originally taught interior design at Grantham College before starting a family.
In 2000 Imogen started work as a self-employed painter and soon Blank Canvas Design grew into a successful painting and decorating business, building an extensive and loyal customer base.
Imogen works alongside fellow painter Caroline Edwards (who is a Dr in Geology!) to create fantastic spaces for their clients using materials from Brewers Decorator Centre in Grantham.
The proud decorators, who offer the full painting and interior design package, shared their recent work with Brewers, featuring a beautiful floor design they rejuvenated at a stunning Georgian house in Carlton-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire belonging to Peter and Karen Moore.
The floor was first designed and painted by Blank Canvas Design nine years ago, but after some floorboards had been replaced the design needed to be bought back to its original splendour.
After preparation which included sanding and cleaning of the floor to remove any dust, primer tinted to a pale grey was applied to the boards and left to dry.
Fortunately there was enough of the original design remaining in order to mark out the new application to the exact specification of the original template. Due to the nature of the design only one paint colour at a time could be added which did take a lot of taping!
Johnstone’s Acrylic Eggshell was tinted to two different shades of grey to complete the design, a water-based system was used due to quick drying times required.
The small square keystones were a final addition and applied using a stencil and stencil brush using 300ml Johnstone’s tester pots mixed to a dark grey.
Once dried the beautiful design was sealed using two coats Johnstone’s Quick Drying Clear Satin Floor Varnish to ensure many more years of use.
